Heidi-Anett Haugen is an author and visual artist. She lives in Trondheim and works with analogue collage, cutting with scissor and scalpel and glueing by hand. She uses old magazines, books that have been discarded from libraries or that she has bought used from second-hand shops, advertising and newspapers.

Haugen thinks of collage as poetry, as a poem where one peels away many layers and then one comes to one or another kind of core.  Humans and nature are often part of her imagery.

“Collage is putting together things that do not really belong together, but still make it fit together. I like the process of finding material, cutting and tearing in it, and throwing what I don’t want to use. For me, it is an intuitive process to put together the various image elements into one collage. Often my collages consist of two layers, a background element and one in front. It is intriguing and motivating to create new narratives, it feels like releasing already set images, to let them become something else, a different story.”

Haugen is author of one novel “Kuk og hjarta” (Cock and Heart), and one chapbook “Mor mi er ein elg” (My Mother is a Moose), both fiction and published by Flamme Forlag. Her novel and chapbook both feature her collages on the cover.
